This statue can be found in Polonnarua, about 1.5km along the Parakrama Samudraya dam.(tank).The common believe is that this statue is of King Parakramabahu (1153-1186).The statue is 3.5m height & carved in a semicircular rock. The huge rock sculpture is a great witness for the unique craftsmanship of the Sri Lankans at that time.
Another belief is that this statue is of an Indian religious teacher named ‘Agastaya’.This statue is in the land of Potgul Vehera & Agastaya is one of the persons involved with activities in Pothgul vehera.
Whoever the person resembles from this statue, it shows the great history of Sri Lanka.
