Mulkirigala Rock Cave temple,known as ‘Little Sigiriya’ is located in Hambantota district,Sri Lanka,25 minutes journey from Tangalle.The Mahawamsa records that King Saddatissa (137 BC – 119 BC) built the stupa. However various cave temples containing fine murals of historical importance can be seen & those have been created during different periods of Sri Lankan history.
As the name suggests, it is a rock & temple is built in few steps. These rock steps lead the visitors through a series of natural caves, with unique wall paintings & Buddha statues, and on to the summit.
